Krejcir accused of delaying sentencing
Police are convinced that Radovan Krejcir is deliberately delaying his attempted murder sentencing to give himself time to escape. Judge Colin Lamont has postponed the case till February 2016.
This was after Krejcir’s lawyers said they’d been unable to prepare because of funding problems. This has led police and the prosecution team to believe that all this is a delaying tactic.
Judge Colin Lamont convicted Radovan Krejcir and five co-accused of kidnapping, attempted murder and attempted drug possession in August. And has been trying to sentence them ever since.
Krejcir’s lawyers argued on Tuesday for the case to be postponed yet again because money transferred by his mother for his legal fees had been seized.
The judge was clearly unhappy but he granted the postponement any way.
“In those circumstances there is nothing I can do but to remand it till the 22nd February 2016.
“These are simply delaying tactics, but as the NPA we will abide by this postponement, as we know in fact that they are just postponements of the inevitable. Sentencing will ultimately happen,” says Phindi Louw, National Prosecuting Authority.
Krejcir has denied he has any intention to escape.
