What is stronger than the rand

When something is truly depressing we are often faced with two choices: laugh or cry. And many South Africans have chosen the more cheerful path to dealing with the Rand’s dismal performance against major currencies.

The Rand has dropped in the past three weeks, trading at R13,19 to the US Dollar and R20, 74 to the British Pound at around 1pm on Monday.

#StrongerThanTheRand started trending at around midday on Monday, providing a hilarious selection of Tweets about the Rand’s strength…or lack thereof.

This means if you are planing on traveling to Britain in the next few days you could find yourself paying a little over R80 for a burger.  Is South Africa in trouble and are we turning a blind eye?
